Union pickets Shaw’s, Star
March 9th, 2010
Members of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 791 began picketing about a dozen Shaw’s and Star Market stores after union workers at a Shaw’s warehouse in Methuen went out on strike.
Peter Derouen, a spokesman for Easton-based Local 791, said his union’s members are urging shoppers to boycott stores where picket lines have been established.
Derouen said his union has set up picket lines in front of at least 11 stores in Greater Boston and southern New Hampshire, as well as the perishable goods warehouse in Methuen. The warehouse provides dairy items, meats and produce for Shaw’s and Star Market stores in New England.
